Santa's Newfie Christmas (New Foundland) - text

playlist karaoke

It happened a couple of years ago
one night on Christmas Eve,
I was playing my accordion,
a-sittin' by the tree;
When suddenly down the chimney
old Santa he did come
With his sack upon his back,
it was a quarter-to-one.

He greeted me most kindly
as he set about his chore,
Takin' the sack from his back
and laying it on the floor;
Then beneath the Christmas tree
he laid the children's toys,
And filled up all the stockings
while I played I'se The B'y.

When he finished up with the stockings,
he sat down in the chair,
"You know the Newfie music is
the kind I like to hear."
He said I must be going,
would I like to come,
So I grabbed me old accordion
and a sweetened spot of your rum.

He took me gently by the hand,
pressed a finger to his nose,
And in a couple of seconds
up the chimney we goes;
We headed off into the night
across the midnight sky,
With Santa yelling, "Ho-ho-ho,"
while I played I'se The B'y.

From rooftop to rooftop
sure off we did go,
On and on through the night
in the fog and snow;
And with those reindeers prancing
so gracefully in flight,
A good ol' Newfie Christmas
Santa had that night.

Now I hear that Santa
the accordion he's learned to play,
And as time is drawing near
he'll soon be on his way;
And if you listen carefully
and look up in the sky,
You'll hear him playing the squeezebox
and singing I'se The B'y.
You'll hear him playing the squeezebox
and singing I'se The B'y.

I'se the b'y that builds the boat,
and I'se the b'y that sails her;
And I'se the b'y that catches the fish,
and takes them home to Lizer.
